Tinsley
COLONEL WINS D.S.O.
The Sydney Morning Herald of Wednesday 7 April 1943 (page 9) featured an article about the Military Cross for two chaplains and More El Alamein Citations.
"The D.S.O. was awarded to NX372, Lieutenant-Colonel Walter Noel TINSLEY (Artillery). He commanded an artillery field regiment, which was responsible for the protection of the northern flank of the advance. The quickness of response and accuracy of the supporting fire provided was due largely to his insistance on a high standard of efficiency and to the initiative and forcefulness he displayed throughout the battle. His regiment allowed the enemy no respite on the northern sector by continuously harassing him by both observed and predicted fire." (Thanks to Helene Riedl for this reference.)
